Sir Ambrose Heal was a designer, manufacturer and retailer of furniture and an important figure in design developments in early 20th century Britain. The business was based in Tottenham Court Road, London and the Heal and Son Ltd archive is held in the V&A Museum.There are references in the book to Buckinghamshire: the very last piece of furniture designed by A. H. was a cabinet made in 1953 to house the book containing the names of the men of Penn who were killed in War and is located in Holy Trinity Church. Ambrose is buried in Penn graveyard (p. 225). Also mentioned are: G-Plan (p. 128); Wycombe Aircraft Co. (p. 237) and James Cox & Co. of High Wycombe (pp. 245-251).
