Poetry Makers with Mike Bruton at Marlow

Come and join us at Marlow Library for a fun, live poetry session with lockdown poet, Mike Bruton.

As one of our Marvellous Maker Poets, you'll help Mike create a fun poem in the session based on ideas, themes and words that you, the participants, suggest to end up with a unique poem.

This session is part of the 2024 Summer Reading Challenge run by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with Libraries.

Marvelous Makers! Story Board Games at Aylesbury

Staff from Dead Universe comic shop, Aylesbury, will be coming to Aylesbury Library to play some storytelling board games! Weave a tale as you play a game, where the only limits of what you can do is your imagination.

This is a free event. Booking in library required. *Booking open on 6th July 2024.*

This event is part of our Summer Reading Challenge, Marvelous Makers! Children aged 5-11 are tasked with reading 6 books over the Summer. Under 5s also have the Mini Reading Challenge, where they also can try to read 6 books over the Summer. Sign up in the library from 6th July.

Marvelous Makers! Dungeons and Dragons Introduction at Aylesbury

Staff from Dead Universe comic shop, Aylesbury, will be coming to Aylesbury Library to play an introductory game of Dungeons and Dragons! Come and learn the basic rules, play along, and create amazing fantasy stories through the game.

Story Writing Competition at Princes Risborough

As part of this year's Summer Reading Challenge, we're happy to announce the return of our annual Story Writing Competition!

Come to the front desk and collect your story writing pack, which is full of helpful tips for writing a story. The theme is 'Marvellous Makers', so take your inspiration from that - perhaps an artist with a magic paintbrush, or the story of a young person who dreams of being on the stage!

Get your stories back to us by 14 September and we will announce the winner and runner up, who will both win a special prize and have their stories displayed in the library!

Patchwork Storytelling at Amersham

Throughout July and August, we challenged you to write a word, sentence or paragraph for a story, and leave it in our Story Box. At this event, we'll open the box and put all the suggestions into one big story to be displayed in the Children's Library!

This event is suitable for ages 7+.

This event is running as part of the 2024 Summer Reading Challenge, Marvellous Makers, which is produced by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with libraries.

Honey Heist at Amersham

It's the summer holidays at the Chilterns Lifestyle Centre. You are going to undertake the greatest heist the world has ever seen. Two things:

1) You have a complex plan that requires precise timing

2) You are a bear

Honey Heist is a Table Top Role Playing Game (TTRPG) by Grant Howitt that sees players take the role of bears attempting to pull off the heist of the century. With only one dice, and simple rules, it is perfect for anyone who's wanted to try TTRPGs.

Honey Heist is similar to Dungeons & Dragons and other such games, but without the the pressure of using seven different dice! The story is entirely told by the players, and an element of chance is added through the use of dice. How successful the heist proves is entirely in your hands...

Honey Heist is open to players aged 9-12.
