Important changes to our Public Computer Use Policy
Following an issue that affected the use of public computers for a number of accounts belonging to children under the age of 16, allowing temporary access where they may have been restricted. This will be fixed on 5 March with changes to the Public Computer Use Policy, which you can access for more information.
- Children aged 0-4: Children will not be able to use their library membership to access public computers, but parents or guardians can request to lift this restriction when the child turns 5.
- Children aged 5-12: Parents must inform us if you want to restrict their child's access to public computers. Parents can do this by emailing library@buckinghamshire.gov.uk or by speaking to a member of staff in branch. If we don't hear from parents by 5 March 2025, their child will continue to have access.
- Children aged 13-15: Children can use public computers without parental consent. This is aligned with GDPR guidance from the Information Commissioner’s Office. In addition, this also aligns with our borrower registration policy as children may register to be a library member from 13 years old independently.
All library users can still access Wi-Fi and Hublets. We filter and monitor internet use on public computers and devices, and the Wi-Fi service is also monitored. If you have any questions, please contact us at library@buckinghamshire.gov.uk
